Has lockdown finally got to you? Do you want to go to Another Place?
Library Bar
The seemingly never ending lockdown left many of us climbing the walls, desperately wishing we could escape to Another Place.
So as restrictions ease, maybe it’s time to do exactly that!
Welcome to Another Place, Watermillock, Ullswater.
It’s Better To Wake At The Lake
I have had the pleasure of visiting Another Place on two occasions. Once in the depths of winter, watching Storm Ciara blow in across the lake, all from the cosiness of a steamy hot tub. And more recently in the beautiful summery weather we have been enjoying.
Ullswater Sailing
Just like the ever changing landscape of the lake, Another Place is something of a shapeshifter. Families are very much welcomed and catered for, yet the Rampsbeck Restaurant and the Library bar are a very grown up affair, out of bounds to children after 6.00pm.
In the interest of not offending, I have nothing against children and indeed I am actually the proud owner of one myself. That said, I also value adult only peace and quiet. And whilst The Living Space restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, boasting a laid back Scandi design, this can potentially translate to free range children. Therefore I suggest couples visit Another Place during term time.

Families At Another Place
Summer Staycation at Lake Ullswater -Living Space Terrace
From room facilities, to menus and even the option to borrow a Micralite stroller to enjoy the great outdoors with ease, Another Place have really put families at the core of their business. Thumbs up to that! And sitting on the terrace, on a sunny Saturday in July, I wondered if this might be the beginning of a renaissance for Lake District hotels.
It’s not something specific which makes Another Place stand out. The decor, the food and the location are all great, but the offerings of many other Lake District hotels equal or challenge this experience. Yet seemingly the overall vibe is younger, more energetic and somehow more favourable for a week’s staycation.
Perhaps it is no accident, after all the team behind Another Place are also responsible for the successful Watergate Bay Hotel in Cornwall. And as I sit watching wetsuit clad children running up and down to the Sheep Shed ( base for lake activities) I wonder if we are guilty of overlooking lake holidays.
The tabloid press have been consistent in the reporting of crowded UK beaches post lockdown. As islanders it is apparent that we do like to be beside the seaside, but is this stopping us enjoying the UK lakes? Another Place hotel is committed to getting families out onto the water and offers wild swimming, paddle-boarding, kayaking and introductions to RYA sailing certifications.
Other recommendations include Pony Trekking from Park Foot, Aira Force Waterfall and Ullswater Steamers.
Wifi is available throughout the hotel but for families - this is definitely the opportunity to find a better connection!
Life is better by the lake….
Adult Time
Although Wordsworth famously celebrated the spring Daffodils surrounding Ullswater, the colours of autumn leaves are probably equally beguiling, further enhanced with a fireside position in the library bar, complete with a glass of Sancerre Domaine de Durand.
We sampled enough wine to make sure it was on point for you! Another Place, Library Bar!
Room Recommendation: Book the Joules Suite. A very bold departure from any traditional hotel interior and intentionally void of the cool and contemporary. The Joules Suite is dramatic with deep teal panelled walls, yellow soft furnishings and a black marble bathroom. Situated in the main part of the house you will also enjoy the best views of the lake.
Top Trip Tip: Check family swim times and enjoy Swim Club at any other time. Xxx
